Roland is a geology graduate from University College London and has over 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
Initially involved in the drilling services sector, he has undertaken managerial roles in most of the active oil and gas regions of the world including West Africa, the Middle East, the North Sea and North and South America. Leaving his position as Eastern Hemisphere Manager at Teleco Oilfield Services in 1992, Roland founded Integrated Drilling Services in 1992 backed by 3i Group plc.
Roland sold Integrated Drilling Services in 1998 before founding Star Energy, a leading onshore UK oil and gas producer and developer and operator of gas storage facilities. Star Energy acquired and developed gas storage projects in the UK (Humbly Grove, commissioned 2005), Denmark, UK North Sea, Holland and Ireland (subsequently Kinsale Energy under Petronas ownership). Star Energy became the largest onshore UK oil and gas operator in terms of wells and fields (25) and second largest producer after BP with daily production of c. 3500 bopd. Star Energy was purchased by Petronas, the Malaysian state oil company in 2008 and Mr Wessel continued as CEO of Star Energy until late 2011.
Roland jointly managed an oil and gas technology fund and subsequently was EVP at APS Technology Inc. in Connecticut USA before returning to London to found Trans European Oil & Gas.
Roland held a number of non-executive positions in the oil and gas sector, including Dominion Petroleum for four years until the sale to Ophir.
Roland has been involved in the development of several key oilfield technologies including the Schlumberger PowerDrive rotary steerable system, multi-lateral drilling systems, electromagnetic prospecting technology and wireline drilling systems. Mr Wessel has participated in several patents and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

After obtaining an honours degree in Engineering and Management, Colin joined Price Waterhouse where he qualified as a chartered accountant in 1979. Colin’s experience with Price Waterhouse included various professional accounting positions in the UK, Europe and the Far East. Colin joined Christian Salvesen plc in 1987 and, following an initial role as Group Internal Auditor, moved to the company’s mobile power and temperature control division – Aggreko – where he established the financial management system of a newly-acquired business in Singapore. Colin then moved to Aggreko’s European head office in the Netherlands where he took on the role of European Finance Manager, covering operations in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Spain and Finland. In 1994, Colin joined a private-equity-backed oil services business in Aberdeen as Financial Director to assist the company in its expansion into the USA and the Far East. Colin subsequently joined another private-equity-backed oil services business to assist the company in enabling a successful exit route for the private equity providers. In 1999 Colin joined Star Energy Limited as a founder member and Financial Director, responsible for all aspects of the company’s financial management. Colin took the accounting of the business in-house and developed a highly skilled and motivated finance team. He was instrumental in the company’s successful listing on the London Stock Exchange in 2004, various subsequent share placings, and the company’s ultimate sale to Petronas.
Colin is a co-founder of Trans European Oil & Gas.

Melvyn is a reservoir engineer with over 35 years of experience. Melvyn has a BSc (Hons) from Keele University in Maths and Physics, an MSc. from Imperial College in Atmospheric Physics and Dynamics and a Ph.D in Applied Mathematics from Exeter University.
Melvyn joined British Gas in 1980 as a petroleum engineer and undertook petroleum and reservoir engineering tasks associated with the management of Southern North Sea gas fields and the Morecambe gas field.
Melvyn joined Burmah Oil in 1984 as a reservoir engineer, involved with North Sea oil and gas assets.
In 1986 Melvyn joined Welldrill / Geopec, an international petroleum consultancy business, as a reservoir engineer, performing client project work together with software and business development. In 1996 the company was purchased by Duke Engineering and Services Ltd, a subsidiary of Duke Energy in the USA. Melvyn continued as a manager and director of the UK company. The company’s principal business activity was performing integrated reservoir and field development studies for major oil companies and national oil corporations around the world. Melvyn was involved in projects in the UK, North Africa, Middle East, FSU and the Indian sub-continent, and held overall responsibility for project management and delivery.
In 1999 Melvyn joined Star Energy Limited as a founder member and Technical Director, responsible for all aspects of the company’s sub-surface activities including geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering and drilling. Melvyn developed an in-house team of technical professionals, and was with the company through the initial funding, various acquisitions, AIM listing and purchase by Petronas.
Melvyn left Star Energy in 2012 when the company was purchased by iGas and became a consultant reservoir engineer until becoming a co-founder of Trans European Oil and Gas.

Tony has over 20 years of commercial, strategic, financial and senior management experience gained in the energy industry and investment banking. In industry, he worked for TOTAL, Amoco, BP and Toreador, primarily in upstream oil & gas business development, managing strategic growth and diversification initiatives, shaping complex joint ventures and revising a firm’s capital structure through capital raising (both debt and equity). In his last position he ran the French operations of US Toreador/ZaZa, ultimately selling the business unit to Vermilion and Hess.
His experience extends to the fundamentals of the international gas business and consulting in European wholesale electricity & gas markets (PA Consulting). In banking, he worked for Goldman Sachs in commodity trading as well as principal investment in energy assets and for Houlihan Lokey on distressed M&A, valuation, and financial restructuring in France and the Benelux.
He obtained an MBA at London Business School (with distinction) in 2000, a joint MSc in Energy Management and Policy / Ingénieur Degree at University of Pennsylvania / IFP School (French Petroleum Institute) in 1991. He also holds a Master in Engineering in Applied Mathematics (magna cum laude) from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium, obtained in 1989. He is fluent in English, French, and Dutch (Flemish), and has a good understanding of German.
